About mantra chanting

What is Manthira Uchadanam (mantra chanting)?

Manthira Uchadanam is the repeated recitation of a sacred mantra, also known as japa. Chanting the same mantra with attention, again and again, is a traditional practice for steadying the mind and deepening devotion to the deity.

Why are mantras chanted 108 times?

108 is considered a sacred number in Hindu tradition, and a japa mala has 108 beads — one for each repetition. Shorter counts such as 11, 21 or 54 are also common when time is limited.

Which mantra should I chant for Shiva, Murugan, Ganesha and other Gods?

Widely chanted mantras include "Om Namah Shivaya" (the Panchakshara mantra) for Lord Shiva, "Om Saravanabhava" (the Shadakshara mantra) for Lord Murugan, "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha" for Lord Ganesha, "Om Namo Narayanaya" for Lord Vishnu (Perumal) and "Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa" for Lord Ayyappan. Choose from the mantras available on this page in the list above.

How do I use this chanting page?

Choose a mantra, set how many times it should be recited and the pause between recitations, then tap the God’s image to begin. The ring around the image shows your progress, and you can pause, resume or stop at any time. An optional soft drone plays underneath so the pauses never feel empty.

Can I chant along on my phone?

Yes. Keep this page open while chanting — on supported phones the screen stays awake until the chanting is complete.
