I worship Kālabhairava, whose sacred lotus feet are served by the gods, who wears a serpent as the sacred thread, bears the crescent moon, and is the embodiment of compassion. He is revered by sages and yogis such as Nārada and is the transcendent Lord of Kāśī.
I worship the radiant Kālabhairava who shines like millions of suns, carries beings across the ocean of worldly existence, bears the blue throat, grants desired blessings, and possesses three eyes. He is the destroyer of Time itself and the imperishable Lord.
I worship Kālabhairava who holds the trident, ḍaṅka, noose and staff, who is the primordial deity, dark-hued, imperishable and free from affliction. Mighty in valour and fond of the cosmic dance, he is the Lord of Kāśī.
I worship Kālabhairava who grants both worldly fulfilment and liberation, whose form is majestic and beautiful, who is affectionate toward devotees and whose form encompasses all worlds. He is adorned with resonant golden bells at his waist.
I worship Kālabhairava, protector of the bridge of Dharma, destroyer of the path of unrighteousness, liberator from the bonds of karma and giver of well-being. His form is adorned with serpent ornaments and shines with a golden splendour.
I worship Kālabhairava, whose gem-studded sandals radiate brilliance, who is eternal, incomparable, stainless and worshipped as the chosen deity. He destroys the pride of death and, with his fearsome form, grants release from bondage.
I worship Kālabhairava whose thunderous laughter shakes the cosmic realms, whose glance destroys accumulated sins and whose command is formidable. He grants the eight siddhis and wears a garland of skulls.
I worship Kālabhairava, the leader of the hosts of beings, bestower of great fame, the Lord who examines the merits and sins of those who dwell in Kāśī, knower of the path of righteousness, the ancient Lord and ruler of the universe.
**Phalaśruti:** Those who recite this beautiful Kālabhairavāṣṭakam gain a means toward knowledge and liberation and increase their spiritual merit. Sorrow, delusion, poverty, greed, anger and affliction are destroyed. They are assured of reaching the presence of the sacred feet of Kālabhairava.
